Appropriate pain management in companion animals is a fundamental pillar of veterinary medicine, with a direct impact on animal welfare and clinical recovery. This study aimed to evaluate pain management in a hospital setting through a retrospective analysis of clinical cases. A descriptive observational study was conducted based on the clinical records of companion animals treated at a veterinary hospital during April 2024. Three clinical cases (two involving acute pain and one involving chronic pain) were analysed, considering variables such as pain type, assessment methods, analgesic protocols, and clinical outcome. The results suggest the consistent use of multimodal analgesia, combining different pharmacological classes, including opioids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and other adjuvant agents. Continuous monitoring and the individualised adjustment of analgesic protocols were also found to play an important role. The analysis of the clinical cases demonstrated differences between acute and chronic pain, both in their clinical presentation and therapeutic response. It can be concluded that effective pain management requires an integrated approach based on systematic patient assessment and the implementation of individualised therapeutic strategies. Veterinary nursing plays a key role in the early recognition, monitoring, and optimisation of pain management in the hospital environment.
